In the late eighties, Spanish publisher Timun Mas, who had already become famous for translating and publishing many popular gamebook series into Spanish (like Choose Your Own Adventure and Endless Quest), decided to capitalize on that popularity and release a few gamebook series of their own. As a result, they released the Tú eres quien defiende a los animales series, oriented towards younger readers, and the Barcelona, Máxima Discreción series, which attempted to reach an adult market.

This hard-to-find series of interactive books was written by several recognized Spanish authors. All the books I've seen make no use of rules or random numbers, only of choices a la Choose Your Own Adventure. The books are, however, quite thick and their subject matter is more mature than is the case of most gamebook series. Apparently this series was not a commercial success, which is a shame, since like the British series Storytrails, these books showed that it is possible for interactive books to have interesting writing and gameplay while dealing with adult themes. The genre the publishers and the authors chose for this series is pulp noir, which was quite popular in Spain at the time and will be recognized by fans of Quentin Tarantino's films.

One last thing of note is that due to the origins of the authors and the publisher, some of the books were written in Catalan (the language of Catalonia, Spain) and later translated into Spanish, while some of the others were first written in Spanish and then translated into Catalan.
