Among the most promising media tie-ins I believe have ever been produced, the Survivor series is one which, despite its rudimentary and impassioned origins as a mass market paperback series that fully expects to disappear as quickly as it appeared in the first place, has an impressive number of strengths. The writers of each title are unfortunately each different, hence the quality of the series isn't the same all around (and the first book, "Survivor: Thailand" , is far superior to the unconnected sequels). Additionally, the series sells itself as a first-person experience (ex. "You play the game, you choose the outcome!") though the decision-making is third-person limited omniscient, deciding the winner of challenges, eliminated competitors at the merge, and so forth. Perhaps worst of all, its elementary-oriented nature can often be too much of a drawback. But past all of these let-downs one can find an exciting, invigorating and impressively promising series with a remarkably strong debut title. Despite its shortcomings, it's a strongly recommended series - and one of the most all-around satisfying gamebooks to have ever been written, as far as I can tell.
