This series of gamebooks distinguishes itself from the crowd in a rather unusual way: as each adventure unfolds, the reader is prompted at various times to type lines of code in the BASIC programming language into his or her computer (an Apple II, Commodore 64 or Radio Shack Color Computer). By the end of the story, these lines of code make up a complete computer game which the reader can play; depending on the choices made, different aspects of the game will vary. A text-based equivalent to the game is also included for readers without access to a computer.
