British novelist Dennis Wheatley was an early pioneer of the "solve it yourself" genre, collaborating with J. G. Links to produce four "crime dossiers" consisting of collections of clues that the reader must study carefully in order to solve mysteries. These were original printed in the 1930's and were reissued in the late 1970's/early 1980's.
