In this game, players can compete or collaborate to solve mysteries. After reading an introductory story, players consult with maps, newspapers, directories and a paragraph book to gain clues. After a limited number of turns, they must propose a solution; victory or defeat depends on whether the proposed solution matches the provided answer.

The game has been published in several editions and is supported by a number of expansions that add more cases (some of which require the base game, and some of which are stand-alone).
