This series of thin booklets was a fairly early experiment in interactive fiction. It was designed to help reluctant young readers to gain an appreciation of books by appealing to their short attention spans. Each two-page spread contains a full-color picture and a page of text. At the end of each page of text, three choices offer different possible cliffhanger conclusions. The reader turns to the page of the cliffhanger that he or she finds most interesting, and then the tale proceeds. Since the reader chooses what happens rather than what the protagonist does next, the feel is different from that of most gamebooks. Each booklet's story is accompanied by some extra material such as teaching guidelines, reading comprehension exercises and even stickers of the illustrations which allow readers to record their paths through the story for future reference.
