Eastgate Systems was an early publisher of hypertext systems (and remains active as of this writing), developing the Storyspace system used to build some of the earliest significant examples of digital gamebook-like narrative. This hypertext fiction movement can be viewed as a sibling of the traditional gamebook, but generally with higher literary aspirations and with a greater emphasis on exploring a narrative in a non-linear fashion rather than shaping the narrative through decision-making.
