Demian's Thoughts: |
Like some of the author's other work, this book has a bit more text than is usual for the series. It also deserves some credit for good internal consistency, with multiple read-throughs revealing more details about the inn. The problem is that it doesn't give the reader a chance to do much of anything; while at least one ending is worth reaching for its amusing twist, there is really no path through the book that fully reveals the inn's secrets and brings the story to a positive conclusion. Most endings either end in disaster or trail off without resolving the main plot. Perhaps this is realistic -- a tale of a small child's inconsequential adventures on the sidelines of larger events -- but it doesn't make for a very satisfying gamebook. |
