Demian's Thoughts:

Thankfully, this book does pick up some of the trailing threads left by the previous volume, further exploring themes of love and loss while simultaneously providing vomit jokes and tangents involving the pitfalls of brain replacement. Ahh, children's literature. As with the rest of the series, the book has some good moments, though it's a bit uneven overall. While not nearly as much of a gamebook as The Golden Udder, this book does have a single "make a choice and turn the page" decision point, making it the second most interactive volume in the series. The choice is entirely pointless (either you get an extra few pages of silliness, or you immediately proceed with the main storyline), but at least it's there. Although there is nothing preventing future volumes from being written, it seems unlikely that more are coming based on the amount of time since this book was released. Fortunately, this is a fairly satisfying conclusion -- some recurring themes get wrapped up, and the last few pages end the book on a strong note. The parallel comic strips in chapter 34 make good use of contrast and (along with the last few pages of text) epitomize the series' interesting combination of surprisingly serious themes and random wackiness. These books could definitely have been a bit better, but they're an admirable effort, and they're definitely worth a look -- they don't take long to read, but they offer quite a few laughs.
