Demian's Thoughts: |
This is probably most comparable to the first volume in the series -- it's not a full-fledged gamebook, but it does have some branch points where comic panels veer off in different directions, showing events happening in parallel or offering tangents and alternate possibilities of what might have been. It's also entertainingly silly if not entirely satisfying. There are some good gags -- I particularly enjoyed the weird subplot involving ceiling fans -- but it's hard to tell what the author is trying to achieve. The references to familiar mythology and the almost tragic tone the book takes at the end both seem somehow out of place, almost like jokes without punchlines. Perhaps this is all setting the stage for the final volume, but I could just as easily believe the author wasn't quite sure what to do and just ended up improvising without direction. I guess I'll find out shortly.... |
