Kveto's Thoughts: |
The third and final adventure in this series by Paul Kidd and his party of misfits led by Justicar the ranger and Escalla the pixie, sees the crew taking on one of the toughest old-school modules, Queen of the Demonweb Pits. This is perhaps the first time they are significantly challenged by the surroundings, as they take on the iconic spider-queen, Lolth. As with Kidd's other novels, the interplay between the characters is all the fun, with his dialogue heavy writing style. I would have liked a bit more description of the surroundings as it takes place mostly in the demonic hells. Although it isn't a continuing storyline, reading the previous two Justicar novels, White Plume Mountain and Descent into the Depths of the Earth, is essential so as not to be completely lost with all the character interplay. But it is a good solid ending, with heavier emphasis on the romance (which requires a potion of gigantism for-ahem-consummation). |
