Having thoroughly enjoyed the challenging nature of the first book in the series, The Ghosts of Craven Manor, I had high expectations for this sequel. After reading this book for the past week I can say this is one of the most complex and stimulating gamebooks of all time. Clocking at 1000 sections, this is a huge volume that uses codewords and checkboxes. Decisions made in the first book have significant implications in this sequel so reading one after the other is recommended. You will be making meaningful choices that all have consequences down the road. There are many side quests to keep the reader busy, and all tie nicely to a bigger overarching plot. Meticulous note taking and mapping are key to reaching the ten endings and finding the various easter eggs. I recommend downloading the playing aids uploaded by the author. Some of the word puzzles are tough to solve and you need to look closely at all the hints and surnames to progress, but all of the thinking required made the journey even more rewarding. If you are looking for a simple Choose Your Own Adventure style book, this may not be for you. However if you are looking for a demanding gamebook with a rich compelling story, look no further.
