Computer Game Books

I've long been wanting to devote some space on this site to a different type of game book. In the late seventies through the eighties, there were many books filled with computer program listings to type in and play. I spent a lot of time with these, and I still have a great affection for them even though the Internet age has made the once-acceptable idea of a computer user typing in code just to play a game seem rather bizarre. I still think it's a nice hobby, though!

One of these days, I may try to create a bibliography of these games. For now, though, I'm just putting this page in as a placeholder and to link to my web-based modernizations of some classic games from this period.

Here are some other sites with more information on the old type-in books. Thanks to members of the gamebooks mailing list for pointing some of these out.
